In most of my interviews with Developers, I have always asked them to give advice to aspiring developers. The advice that we have received has been nothing less than treasure. Although all of them seem to have had one common advice, they all have asked developers to join comminities and other groups that have a discourse about subjects that are most relevant to them . This helps them gain a whole lot of knowledge and also helps you socialize with people with same area of interest.

We have recently had so many of such discussionns and meet ups happening all around our country and it has if anything helped , we decided to understand more in detail with regards to such meet ups. In conversation with us is the organiser of  GOOGLE DEVELOPER DAY – Jalandhar & Club Captain at Mozilla Developers Community Jalandhar – Mr Vrijraj Singh.

Tell us about GDD – Jalandhar .

Google Developers Group Jalandhar is an initiative to concentrate the efforts of many developers in and around Punjab to learn, share and get productive using the various Google products. It was formed in February 2011. We were recognized among the Top 3 Google Developer communities of India during Google community Summit Asia 2014 held at Sri Lanka in August 2014. To put it in a nutshell, we are a community that organizes tech talks, workshops, barcamps, Google flagship events where programmers meet to discuss and work with several Google developer resources and products.

What are these meet ups based upon?

Our GDG Jalandhar community can be defined in three terms which are Belonging, Empowering and contribution. So mostly we are conducting meetups on three tracks Mobile, Web and Cloud every month. We encouragefemale participants to participate in such meetups. After the meetups are over we collect feedbacks from the attendees to improve our upcoming meetups.

How did you get into the community like Formats I do see you have been a part of few?

During my college life, I had attended DevFest’14 and DevFest’15 organized by GDG Jalandhar and from that time I was impressed by GDG Jalandhar that how the community is working on making better developer eco-system and to encourage awareness in Women to come in Technical fields in Punjab. From that time, I and my friend Suraj Kumar were passionate to join the community and we had contributed in terms of GDG Jalandhar Website (, posters design and delivering session on technologies. After that, we got the opportunity as Organiser at GDG Jalandhar and my Journey has begun as GDG Organiser.

Who can participate in such meet ups ?

Our events are open to newbies, developers, managers, and organizations who are interested in Google’s technologies or use them as part of their projects.Google Developer Groups (GDGs) are for developers who are interested in Google’s developer technology; everything from the Android, App Engine, and Google Chrome platforms, to product APIs like the Maps API, YouTube API and Google Calendar API.

For us best thing is increasing the female participants ratio in every meetup. Recently we had organised GDG DevFest’17 and the female participants was above then 21%.

When is the next meet up happening?

We are going to organise GDD India Extended’17 Event in Jan 2018 on behalf of GDG Jalandhar. We are expecting more female participants for this event. For more details of this events:
